Another Chain Snatching Incident Stabbed Twice

In yet another chain snatching incident, a 59-year-old woman sustained an injury on Saturday morning after she tried to protest chain snatchers, who then attacked her with a knife.

According to police, the woman Shashi Jain, a resident of Delhi, was walking along with her friend near Wave Cinemas in Kaushambi when bike-borne robbers tried to snatch her friend’s gold chain. During the attempt, Jain caught hold of the chain snatcher and resisted his attempt. However, he attacked her with a knife, injuring her in the shoulder and chest.
The woman was rushed to Kamal Hospital in Kaushambi for instant treatment. “The victim had injuries on her right shoulder and chest and was discharged from the hospital by 2.30 pm,” said Dr TS Arora, orthopaedic surgeon at Kamal Hospital, Kaushambi.

However, police said the victim did not come forward with any complaint till late Saturday evening though the incident took place around 10 am.

The robber could not take the chain. The knife was a plastic one,” said Gorakhnath Yadav, station house officer at Indirapuram.
The spot where Saturday’s chain snatching attempt took place was barely 200 metres away from the spot where a three-year-old girl, Mishika, was shot at by two bike-borne robbers in April.

New areas of Indirapuram, Vaishali, Kaushambi and Vasundhara have witnessed a rising trend in chain-snatching incidents in the last couple of months. Last month, the police arrested two bike-borne robbers during a vehicle-checking operation near Sector 1 in Vaishali. Around the time, a sales executive was shot in the stomach when a man tried to snatch a woman’s chain in Sector 63. Last month, the city police had arrested two chain snatchers following an encounter near Kanawni in Indirapuram.

Frequent chain snatchings had come to a halt since then, but Saturday’s incident may point to a new gang becoming operational.
