Bollywood actor Saeed Jaffrey passes away
Dextrous actor Saeed Jaffrey, who worked in several Bollywood and British films, passed away on Sunday at the age of 86.
The news, his niece Shaheen Aggarwal had earlier posted on a social networking website “Today, a generation of Jaffreys has passed away.
Saeed Jaffrey has joined his brothers and sister and is rejoicing in the lap of his Heavenly Father, eternally. The entire Jaffrey Family bids you, “adieu”, you beautiful, beautiful man. See you in heaven!”
Born in 1929, he began his career in 1968 with a short film titled ‘Stalked’. In the years that followed Jaffrey consolidated his position in the Hindi film industry delivering memorable performances in movies such as ‘Shatranj Ke Khiladi’, ‘Dil’, ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ and ‘Henna’ to name just a few.
Besides this, he also essayed pivotal roles in English films like ‘Gandhi’ and ‘My Beautiful Laudrette’. During his illutrioius career, he was nominated for the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ Filmfare award thrice. However, he managed to win it just once.
On the personal front, in 1958 he tied the knot with actress Madhur Jaffrey. However, they parted way after a few years. Later on, the ‘Pathar Ke Insaan’ star married Jeniffer Jaffrey.
He was married to actress and travel writer Mehrunima , but they parted ways in 1965. Together they have three daughters Meera, Zia and Sakina, who is also an actress.
